Creating opportunities for young people

Innes Reid is delighted to welcome Conor Stanton to the team

Conor (pictured above with Office Manager, Sharon Aldridge) lives in Hoole and made a direct approach to Innes Reid as he wanted to pursue a career in financial services.

After reading around the subject, he had established for himself that the best entry point was to try and obtain an apprenticeship with a clear career pathway. We were instantly impressed by Conor’s direct approach, his initiative and his maturity.

Conor joins us after successfully completing his A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry. Whilst in full time education, he also held down 2 part time jobs providing him with a strong foundation of transferable skills.

A ‘stepping stone’ to career in Financial Services

Conor’s role with Innes Reid has been designed to provide him with a ‘stepping stone’ to a successful career in Financial Services. He is starting at the bottom and will learn every aspect of working in a busy financial services office.

Day-to-day, he will support the rest of the team with general administration duties and undergo thorough on-the-job training. Conor may well be the person who opens the door to you when you next visit Dee House; do not be afraid to say hello!

Conor will follow a study and exam pathway towards industry recognised qualifications which will be funded by Innes Reid.  These qualifications will build with the ultimate goal of Conor becoming a Chartered Financial Planner.

Not the first

Several staff have successfully progressed through the ranks at Innes Reid.

(Pictured L-R) Shannon McKevitt, Thomas Williams, Darren Crane, Andrew Williamson.

Conor is not the first College leaver that we have been able to offer an opportunity to. Around this time last year, we recruited Shannon McKevitt as a Junior Administrator who is already an extremely valued member of our Administration team. She joined us due to wanting to avoid the high costs of further education and finding there was a shortage of apprenticeships in her area.

Other employees who joined us shortly after College include Tom Williams who has already progressed from the main office to Paraplanner having achieved success with his study and exams. He now only has 2 exams left to take before he is Diploma qualified.

Innes Reid have been nurturing and developing talent in this way for many years and Conor, Shannon and Tom are following in the footsteps of two of our current experienced advisers who have progressed through the ranks gaining experience and professional qualifications along the way: Darren Crane (who joined Innes Reid in 2006) and Andrew Williamson (2010), and are now both Chartered Financial Planners.

Speaking of the opportunity, Connor Stanton said:

“During my last few months at Sixth Form, I decided that University wasn’t for me. This is mainly due to the potential debts that it comes with and seemingly lots of time spent sitting around which I feel is unproductive.”

“I did want to continue with my education but start earning money and gain real life work experience. After approaching a number of local businesses, I was delighted when Innes Reid got back in touch.”

“Having started, the learning curve is immense and standards are extremely high but I am motivated as I have clear progression.”

Mark Reidford (Managing Director at Innes Reid) said:

“Clearly University is not for everyone and it’s not uncommon for young people to finish their degrees in lots of debt and still without any on-the-job experience that could get them meaningful employment.”

“At Innes Reid, we are extremely passionate about providing an alternative to young people. I was personally very impressed by the maturity of Conor’s decision and by the initiative he showed in approaching us directly when we were not actively advertising a position. I felt this combined with his strong academic record showed the potential we look for in prospective employees .”

“We are delighted to have him on board and wish him a long and happy career here.”
